Polkadot is working to grow its developer base, especially in Latin America, by targeting Web2 developers interested in new areas. Weever (formerly WEB3DEV) has been helping Polkadot grow in Latin America through technical education and collaboration with the Polkadot Blockchain Academy. The goal is to make Polkadot more accessible to entry-level developers and prepare them to become long-term contributors to the ecosystem.
The proposal suggests a comprehensive onboarding journey to integrate Web2 and Web3 developers into Polkadot's Web3 ecosystem. This includes hands-on tutorials, activities, and content to build decentralized finance (DeFi) infrastructure from scratch. The plan is to migrate all existing EVM-focused content to Polkadot's Asset Hub and provide weekly livecoding sessions on Polkadot's official Discord for direct support.
The objectives of this initiative include deploying 5 applications on Westend via tutorials, onboarding 1,500 Web2 developers to Polkadot in Latin America, hosting an online hackathon, educating 500 developers on Polkadot governance and technology, updating EVM tutorials for the Asset Hub, and running weekly livecoding support sessions.
The core benefits of this initiative include opening Polkadot to Web2 newcomers, showcasing Polkadot's unique value, turning governance into a developer advantage, growing skills from novice to expert, and providing support to accelerate builder success. All content will be subtitled in Portuguese and Spanish and remain available online as a long-term resource.
The proposed budget for this initiative is $95,000, with allocations for hackathons, tutorial and content creation, social media reach, and operational costs. This initiative supports the Polkadot ecosystem by aligning with the Polkadot Hub Launch and the Polkadot Growth Strategy, focusing on onboarding Web2 developers and engaging Web3-experienced developers in Latin America over a 12-month period.
