[WFC] KSM #537 - Develop a mechanism to lock a percentage of staking rewards as set out in the details of this referendum
Terminated
terminated
Description

https://kusama.subsquare.io/referenda/537

  • Some people want to lower Kusama's inflation like Polkadot did.
  • Lowering inflation on Polkadot didn’t make the token price go up as expected.
  • It also made staking rewards smaller.
  • Doing this on Kusama could hurt people who stake (nominators).
  • Instead, the idea is to lock some staking rewards so they can’t be sold right away.
  • Locked tokens can still be used for staking or voting.
  • The community should vote on how much to lock.
  • Validators would still get full rewards.

This may be a good idea, but I'd like to see discussion before a WFC is approved. That would include some kind of economic analysis on the effect on staking, nominating and validating. As well as a summary of the pros and cons from such discussion that can go into the proposal for evaluation by the community.

Normally, we would like to see more discussions about this before approving a WFC.

I think this is a process that can change the tokenomics of Kusama in a big way. I would like to see more discussion and analysis of this before moving forward.

The idea is interesting and aligns with Kusama’s spirit, but we prefer to see more concrete modeling and discussion around the long-term implications before taking a firm stance. Abstain for now.

generally supportive of ksm experiments like this and feel like its worth giving a try given the outlined potential benefits + proposer's strong background in this area

I think the intention is good, but I also agree with some comments from nay voters. I abstain for now.

Note: I'm switching to abstain to support an abstain outcome, my original feedback follows. :: I think we should be supportive of experimentation on Kusama. More thought should be given to the possible unlock mechanism as I noted in our discussion with Paradox, but I'm voting aye nonetheless.

Always supportive of experimentation of Kusama, literally what it's built for. I don't like the fact that most details seem a bit unclear but I think it's a WFC so hopefully it will start some action.

A good idea to start experimenting with this instead of changing the inflation
