Description

https://polkadot.subsquare.io/referenda/1377

  • A proposal asks for 250,000 DOT to create OG Rust Bounties.
  • The bounties will encourage Rust engineers to work on Polkadot-related tasks.
  • Tasks will come from OpenGov or the Fellowship and focus on Polkadot-SDK or Runtimes.
  • Five curators will manage the bounties, ensuring tasks are completed well.
  • The goal is to reduce the backlog of tasks and involve more developers.
  • Developers can submit proposals, and the best one will be chosen based on quality and price.
  • Curators will review proposals, award tasks, and report progress every six months.

This will allow the Network to progress faster, Curators are all known to the ecosystem, with a strong track record.

We are ok with this bounty. It addresses a real problem in the ecosystem. We think the reporting will be very important to evaluate the effectiveness of this bounty.

For now I abstain. I'm happy to see it happen if there are concrete tasks and we can use this fund to attract more developers, but it seems there are no clear plans and enough preliminary preparation.

I see a skilled and highly capable set of curators for the job, and I think this is a well-focused bounty on a real issue in Polkadot.

Generally supportive, but is funding the problem, given an individual could go to opengov today? Or does work need to be put into sourcing candidates? If so, will the curators take this on?

We agree with the list of curators as it consists of experienced Substrate devs. More devs, more tasks completed, faster deployment. AYE.

It's a good initiative at face value. But as we delve deeper into it, this bounty has the potential to create a new gatekeeper mechanism around what gets implemented into the protocol. For this critical reason, and given the large amount asked, I think the bounty requires a larger and diverse set of curators, preferably including active OpenGov entities (individuals, companies and DAOs). I'm not against this proposal, but I can't aye it under these conditions. I abstain.

Attracting more talent to the network is necessary. This is a strong concept. Aye.
