[WFC] DOT #1781 - Urgently Halt DOT Treasury Burn
active
Description

https://polkadot.subsquare.io/referenda/1781

  • The treasury burns 1% of its funds every 24 days.
  • This burn destroys DOT tokens that could be used for other purposes.
  • The supply of DOT is now capped, making each token more valuable.
  • Treasury income is expected to decrease over time.
  • Halting the burn would save funds for things like network security and community projects.
  • In 2024 alone, 1.66 million DOT were burned.
  • Gavin Wood, a key founder, supports stopping the burn.
  • Voting "AYE" means you want to stop burning treasury funds.

I would prefer to have more efficient spending enabled by better OpenGov tools, instead of throwing more $ at it that will dilute the coin.

Pushing to urgently halt the burn before we’ve observed any macro effects feels premature at best, opportunistic at worst.

I'd say I have same feelings with Polkadot Poland DAO.

Let's not "URGENTLY" do anything for a while and wait for the effects of upcoming changes to the tokenomics. I'm very disturbed by the recent "push all buttons" approach to play with the fundamental economics of the ecosystem. I also find it a bit cringe to see all these "Gavin Wood as my witness" proposals that have been popping up in the past few weeks. The man is perfectly capable, as we have seen recently, of pushing proposals to the ecosystem so I would expect he's more than happy to propose any change he would like to see community to vote on. This "plus royalistes que le roi" attitude is getting weird.
