https://polkadot.subsquare.io/referenda/1737

  • Two of these directors are chosen by the community.
  • Their job is to help the community talk to the Foundation.
  • They guide people on making proposals and check that work gets done.
  • They must be fair, honest, and share information openly.
  • Anyone can run to be a director if they know Polkadot well.
  • Directors can be removed if the community votes to do so.
  • The goal is to make sure the community’s voice is heard.

Switching to aye after an initial discussion with TWR. I still think there should be time-limited terms (not necessarily consecutive term limits), and it would be beneficial to have it included in the PCF processes. [MY ORIGINAL COMMENT FOLLOWS] I find it beneficial to discuss a framework for the regulation of the process, so thank you to TWR for addressing it, yet I believe that the position should be term-based. The community doesn't have the necessary bandwidth to track the effectiveness of elected directors if their terms are not time-limited. A WfC proposal for each removal is not practical. Ideally, this process should happen entirely on-chain in the future, similar to the council elections of Gov1. [Addition: please see my reply below in discussions.]

I do think that if this initiative needs to be run by community with a term limit.
New directors should be brought to the table by old directors for continuity, Ideally have a law background. Glad this is moving forward.

Let's get some directors in! However also agree term limits are a good idea also, in order to set upfront, especially as there are only two slots.

I completely agree with opening up opportunities for the community to participate in the decisions and actions that the Polkadot Community Foundation may take.

We definitely need more ways for the community to interact with the PCF but this is a good start.

@HELIKON, thank you for the feedback.
I could agree on the time-limited factor, but at the same time this is a delicate role. If a director is doing an excellent and transparent job, it wouldn’t really make sense to remove them just because a term has expired. I would personally prefer that the community retains the ability to remove a director at any time. This way, even without a strict term limit, directors would be aware that if they fail to respect the code of conduct or their commitment to the community, they could still be removed at any moment.

Also, let’s not forget that the PCF itself has an annual duration and needs to be renewed each time. For this reason, we could ask the PCF to include specific rules in the next proposal to complement and refine this WFC, after a trial period that would last until July 2026 (unless removals occur earlier).

For this reason, and considering that it has already been over a year without the two community-side directors, I would ask to support this initiative also on an experimental basis, so that we can better understand the actual effort and work behind this role.

Thanks @The White Rabbit . I'll review my vote in light of the possibility of including the time-limited terms in PCF's next proposal. My suggestion was not for the removal of directors after each specific term, but rather to prevent the stickiness of the position through regular votes of confidence.
