So I gave the Legal Bounty a try for a UX Bounty project (a crypto tax tool with local compliance needs), but the experience was not what I’d hope for. Beyond using Discord, which is already a questionable choice for a legal-focused group, the bigger issue was the clunky onboarding process. It was unclear, extensive, and involved multiple steps just to get to a point where I could even ask for high level guidance. It felt like far more friction than needed. Adding to that, requiring contributors to personally sign legally binding documents before any discussion around a bounty project even begins puts too much risk on individuals and discourages participation. After weeks of this back and forth process (asking for clarity on how to proceed with discussions/next steps), the conversations simply never got off the ground. Instead, we decided to hold off on any legal considerations until a solution is delivered by teams we are in discussions with on this topic, but the process was eye-opening. From my perspective, the Legal Bounty in its current form isn’t serving contributors well. I wouldn’t recommend continuing it, as treasury resources could be put toward programs that are more open, accessible, and user-friendly from the start.

I did not have any direct experience with the legal bounty team, mainly because our own legal concerns have been covered in the past by our own legal counsel. To use it as a pool to pay for individual consultation seems to complicated, due to the nature of legal teams working with contracts etc, like stated above. Would imho make sense to keep alive only if there was a clear agenda, what we would really need as outcomes, actually helping the entire community, so individual work gets less. Example: When teams look for issuance of token in EU, to get a framework and action plan delivered, which shows what kind of legal and accountability requirements have to be met as well as the type of documentation – which is to a certain degree standardaises now in case of MiCA. Most legal refuse to admit, that most of the general tasks involved with token launches or legal entities are pretty standardised. My expectation of a working group and bounty like this would be, to deliver to a certain degree processes and examples or templated, to make a founders life easier. I vote close the bounty.
